Martins Kohout


Martins Kohout (*1984) is a Berlin-based visual artist and publisher, born in Czechia. He/they graduated from the Städelschule in Frankfurt and holds a BA from the Film Academy FAMU in Prague. Kohout is represented by Exile in Vienna and Polansky Gallery in Prague. Martins primarily works in film, animation, installation, and performances. 

Their work has recently focused on various contemporary forms of solitude, the way communication technologies shape our habits and perception, and how dramaturgy and artistic work can be guided and interpreted by the enactivism theories in cognitive science. Kohout has exhibited in solo and group shows in cities including Berlin, London, New York, Brussels, Paris, Prague, Warsaw, Tokyo, Beijing, and more.

In 2011, Martins founded TLTRPreß, a publishing house focused on artistic and experimental work with text and publishing. In 2017, Kohout received the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, for young Czech artists.
