TORUS

Torus, aka Joeri Woudstra, is a The Hague-based multidisciplinary artist who treats dance music as a tool to reflect on the politics and aesthetics of pop culture. Working across trance, electronic, and harder styles, he brings a critical and adventurous stance to both club and gallery contexts, cleanly dissecting scenes and reconstructing them into reimagined contexts to radically alter their social function. His practice pushes dance music to its very edge through ambient compositions and maximalist DJ sets.

Since debuting in 2012, the RMBA Tokyo graduate has developed an impressive practice spanning sound, installation, and curation. Notable projects include soundtracking Telfar's Ugg collaboration, presenting work with artist Kate Cooper at New York’s New Museum, and co-producing an installation for documenta 14 with Malibu. His latest A/V piece “These Cars Do Not Exist” in collaboration with Mark Prendergast has been exhibited at Institut für Zukunft, Balance Festival, and Fiber Amsterdam.
