Johannes Büttner

Johannes Büttner is an Amsterdam- and Berlin-based artist whose work investigates speculative and scientifically grounded socio-economic phenomena. Drawing on countercultural literature, political manifestos, cyberpunk, spiritualism, and urban myth, his practice reflects on planetary crisis, labor, and the structures shaping how we live and work.

Büttner studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and De Ateliers in Amsterdam, and was a recent fellow of the BPA// Berlin Program for Artists. Recent exhibitions include the 16th Istanbul Biennale, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Kunsthalle Mainz, Berlin’s KW Institute for Contemporary Art, and Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt. His film Platform was nominated for the German Short Film Award, and his latest, Soldaten des Lichts—a co-production with ZDF’s Das kleine Fernsehspiel—is currently on a cinema tour.
